Ayala Museum is pleased to present an exhibition of recent paintings by Carlos at ArtistSpace, 2^nd Floor, Glass Wing, Ayala Museum, Makati Avenue corner De La Rosa Street, Makati City, Philippines.  from 13 June to 25 June 2009.  Artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, 13 June 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

This exhibition, Carlos’ fourth at ArtistSpace Ayala Museum, is a showcase of the artist’s passion for his art depicted in his favourite subjects rendered in acrylic.  Carlos’ paintings are characterized by the joyous combination of pleasurable subjects and intensified colour, celebrating life at each artwork’s core.

Born in February, 1950, Carlos grew up in a largely artistic environment; his father, the modernist architect Julio Victor Rocha, Julio’s friends the National Artists Vicente Manansala and Victorio Edades, and Julio’s one-time draftsman Onib Olmedo, strongly influenced the young Carlos in their fervently modernist inclinations.   Carlos’ paintings have now evolved into works of art in a decidedly Fauvist style.  He is also a sculptor, and his sculptures are equally expressive, exhibiting graceful tension and movement.

Carlos’ artworks have been exhibited in the United States, Australia, and Hong Kong.  Many of his works have found their place in distinguished collections in the Philippines and around the world.
